Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic who is also a public speaking event organizer. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency which provides commentary and videos on the representation of women in pop culture. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American journalist and critic who has been awarded awards for her work, is a feminist blogger. Feminist Frequency examines the way women are represented in the popular culture. Destroying stereotypes about women are her primary goals. However, Sarkeesian also highlights issues related to specifically targeted harassment online against women as well as other communities who have been excluded. Sarkeesian has a Master's degree in the field of political and social thought from York University. As a public speaker, she's highly sought after and has spoken at TEDxWomen XOXO and United Nations Broadband Working Group. Interested in issues concerning gender and feminism since an early age she launched her website Feminist Frequency in the year 2009 when she was studying at the university. This ambitious woman planned to start an internet-based series on the gender roles in games but was the target of a harassment campaign online. The attack did have been a hindrance, rather it made her more determined to be a feminist media critic. She has won numerous awards for her contribution to feminism. Anita Sarkeesian has been a journalist for a long time and was the creator of Feminist Frequency. The educational non-profit explores the role of women within the popular culture stories.
